This Fair Housing Assessment for Cincinnati and Hamilton County report provides an overview of the impediments of fair housing issues in the area. As recipients of federal funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City and the County are required to affirmatively further fair housing and conduct periodic analyses of impediments to fair housing choices. This report focuses primarily on issues of housing choice related to the classes protected by federal, state, and local laws. Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or family status. Military and ancestry status are protected classes in the State of Ohio. In the City of Cincinnati, protected classes also include marital status, natural hair, Appalachian origin, sexual orientation, and transgender status.
