City Expands Advancing Diversity in Development Initiative

09 December 2016 - 12:00:00 AM
The City’s Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and Department of Economic Inclusion (DEI) invite local minority-owned certified small business enterprises to attend an informational workshop on Friday, Dec. 16 as part of its ongoing Advancing Diversity in Development initiative.

The session, offered in partnership with the Ohio Development Services Agency and the Greater Cincinnati Microenterprise Initiative, will feature information about financing options available through the City of Cincinnati and the State of Ohio, and projects coming down the pipeline through DCED. The goal is to directly build capacity in participants through offering insights into available resources, whereas last year’s events offered an opportunity for participating businesses to network with developers and connect those businesses’ services, supplies and goods with developers’ needs.

“This event gets more tools to businesses that reflect the diversity of our communities,” notes Department of Community and Economic Development Director Oscar Bedolla. “Innovation and inclusion are a priority as we grow our urban core and surrounding neighborhoods.”

Topics for the event include:
·         Collateral Enhancement Program – enables financing that might otherwise be unavailable due to a collateral shortfall.
·         Ohio Capital Access Program – assists small businesses to obtain credit to help them grow and expand their businesses (similar to a loan guarantee).
·         Ohio Minority Business Bonding Program – provides bid, performance, and payment surety bonds to state-certified, minority-owned businesses that are unable to obtain bonding through standard surety companies.
·         Cincinnati MicroCity Loan Program – provides small business loans up to $35,000 and is used to encourage expansion by providing “gap” debt financing.

Additionally, participants will learn about projects coming down the pipeline through the Department of Community and Economic Development.
